a.s.r. school challenge 2017 to sound gong at Euronext Amsterdam Stock Exchange on 10 February

Summary

On Friday, 10 February, a group of 11 and 12-year-old pupils of primary school De Spits from Lunetten joined a.s.r. CEO Jos Baeten in opening Amsterdam’s Euronext Stock Exchange to mark the start of the a.s.r. school challenge.

This is a.s.r.’s second year of organising the a.s.r. school challenge: a sustainability competition for primary schools in the Province of Utrecht. The school that comes up with the best sustainable idea wins € 12,500 to put towards realising the idea. The a.s.r. school challenge is supported by the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) and the Utrecht Provincial Executive.

a.s.r. school challenge

The a.s.r. school challenge consists of an interactive lesson about sustainability, a sustainability assessment by pupils and a quickscan carried out by the school board. The assessment encourages pupils to think about how to make their school building more sustainable. Participating schools submit their best idea, which can earn them a prize of € 12,500.

a.s.r. puts on the a.s.r. school challenge to help contribute to a more sustainable school climate. The winner in 2016 was OBS Vleuterweide; its pupils came up with a plan to conserve more water in their school. a.s.r. is now helping them to give follow-up to their idea to conserve water.

Given that De Spits is competing in the challenge for the second time, they have been selected to join Jos Baeten in sounding the gong to open the stock market.

This year, the competition is open to all primary schools in the Province of Utrecht. Schools have until 28 February 2017 to register via www.verduurzaamjeschool.nl.

From all entries, five schools will be selected to present their idea to a panel of expert judges on the day of the final on 11 October 2017.
