Roel Wijmenga appointed CFO at ASR Nederland

Summary

Roel Wijmenga (51) will join the ASR Nederland Board of Directors as Chief Financial Officer.

Mr Wijmenga will succeed Martin Kok on 1 February 2009. In the former Fortis structure, Mr Kok combined the role of CFO for the Dutch insurance business with that for Fortis Insurance International. However, because of the demerger of the Dutch insurance business, these two positions had become irreconcilable. Martin Kok will continue to be employed by Fortis.

Mr Wijmenga was CFO at Achmea until June of last year and served as a member of the Interpolis Board of Directors. From August 1987 until March 2003 he held several senior positions at AMEV, which later became part ofFortis ASR, lastly serving as member of the Board of Directors.

Jos Baeten, CEO of ASR Nederland said: "Roel has a great deal of knowledge and experience of insurance, both financial and at the level of the business itself. It's a great advantage that we know him well, which is why we're quite confident that he will fit into our team."

Roel Wijmenga said: "I'm very aware that a lot has changed since I left Fortis, but this does feel like a return to an environment in which I always enjoyed working. My meetings with the people at ASR and everything I've heard about the company confirmed that people still count for something at ASR. That, for me, has been the deciding factor in accepting the challenge to help shape the future of ASR as CFO in these turbulent times in the markets."

Mr Wijmenga's appointment is subject to the approval of the Dutch central bank (DNB).

Alongside CEO Jos Baeten and CFO Roel Wijmenga, Hans van der Knaap, Theo Pluijter, Roeland van Vledder and Jacqueline Rijsdijk also serve on ASR Nederland's Board of Directors. As announced previously, Ms Rijsdijk will join the Board on 1 April 2009.
